DIY/The Dip-Dye

stilodorito-dipdye1
Squeezing in a last DIY post for this, so-called, DIY month.

//credit|COMETOTHEWILDSIDE//
This is my inspiration for the DIY. I’ve been seeing a lot of this done, but I didn’t want to kill any denim items I have just yet, in case I mess up, so I tried it on a heavily stained yellow shirt.

It’s really simple and it doesn’t need much explanation. You get a bucket or something that can hold water, and put bleach and some water. All I was concerned about was turning the fabric white, so I practically soaked the fabric the whole weekend. I added some more bleach, just in case I was worrying that I didn’t put enough
note: The dye-ing process will creep up a good 1-2 inches from where the fabric is touching the water so leave some room when you dip the fabric.

LUST/ White Chucks

chucks

//credit|Andreas Wijk//

Sorry I haven’t been posting much outfits. The absence of a photographer has been taking it’s toll. I’ve got TONNES of new clothes I want to show you though and so many outfits to make, it’s pretty crazy.

Totally wanting white chucks. It’s not all too good to buy them right NOW since they’re usually worn in the Spring and summer so I guess I’ll wait for a few more months. Many outfits have been

DIY/ The Easy Bracelet

stilodorito-uniform2
Kinda lame, kinda cool, kinda really really easy DIY
Uh, hello? It’s almost the end of DIY month, and this is only my first DIY. Do I really need to give instructions? I probably would if it was adjustable but it’s not. I literally just tied two pieces of string together and fashioned them into a necklace. If you were wondering how I took it out, I cut the string off. I have never been able to wear it ever again.
ps. another DIY coming. Something more worth your time

Talk about late!

This is the long-awaited( I think) outfit post. I shot it a while ago but didn’t think it was good enough to post. I guess I changed my mind. This outfit really is just version 2 of this outfit. Simple and easy to don on days when my creative juices are dead. One picture is all.

PIECES/ Dr. Martens 1461

For feet as wide and monstrous as mine, only Doc Martens have lasted the test of time. I pretty much have my mind set at buying a pair of black Doc Martens 1461 shoes. I can’t buy anything more beautiful than these because they are basically going to be my everyday shoes. I will wear them maybe 50% of the time in school. But hey, these Doc Martens are nice too you know!

ps. outfit post up next.

UPDATE/ Collection

clothes

This is the small limited collection of clothes I have brought with me here in Oregon. The pieces are very flexible, yet somehow I still find it hard to dress right now on the first day.

The formality of my ensembles are being questioned by my lovely mother. I pop on a nice crisp white shirt, I get told I look like a waiter and that we’re only going to the mall. I put on a t-shirt and apparently I am too slobby. That’s basically all. I’ll go back to finding something to wear now.

NEW/ The Weekender Bag

 I was supposed to use this for school. That failed when I realized it was big enough to fit ALL of my friends’ books.
I actually got this bag quite a while ago,but only got around to showing you now. You may or may not have guessed that it is vintage, as quite a few of my stuff are. (It’s VV Collection HAHA) I really liked this blog because of it’s pretty simple aesthetic yet unmistakable presence. Am I making any sense? It’s just good okay, and fairly new. It’s  made in Spain with rather very nice sturdy leather and gold hardware as a “cherry on top”
I would really enjoy reading all of your comments on how much you think I bought this for. I’ll tell you on a future post how much they really were. COMMENT!

UPDATE/ Neglection

accesoriesdiy

Are you mad at me for neglecting Stilo?

I am so sorry for having neglected this wee blog of mine for a few days. I have no excuse other than feeling uninspired and having nothing to say. I do have some few posts lined up in the next week.

I will be in Oregon for the next 10 days from Friday so I will be doing some “back to school” shopping, and yeah that’s mostly all.

ps. The picture is my first attempt at DIY-ing some accesories. They sorta fail.

ps. Outfit post coming up in the next few days.

THOUGHT FRIDAYS/No One Makes It

//credit|afterdrk.com//

These 2 pictures are probably the best representative of the most perfect things I would want to buy right now. One dilemna, they’re both for women.

Usually people would talk about material stuff they are completely in love with. They want to buy it as soon as possible, and have it in their hands. What I don’t usually hear about is the opposite, the situation (err rut) that I am into.

Last night while online-window-shopping and checking out so much stores, I realized that I’ve become rather very picky of the things I want. Regardless of the price, I just couldn’t picture myself wearing much of the stuff. I probably found 3 items I MIGHT buy, but no concrete decision.

I’ve also noticed that not a lot of menswear retailers have the things that I want. It’s quite odd, I might say.You see, I’m not a very androgynous guy; yet all of the stuff I’ve been seeing so far look a tad too rugged for me; there’s an extra detail that ruins it for me, the shape is totally not my thing. The stuff I’ve been imagining to wear in my head almost do not exist. No one makes it.

Have you guys ever been in a state where you just didn’t like anything on retail, nothing good enough to buy? I guess I will find myself DIY as much as I can, but hey, don’t expect me to make my own shoes

WISHLIST/ Black is Always the New black

blacknewblack
shoes and boots|UNITED NUDE HOLLOW SERIES 480 540// ring|DIESEL// jacket|CHEAP MONDAY
  I don’t have a lot of black things in my closet. I have no idea why; black seems to be the perfect colour for me, a person with a lot to hide. The jacket isn’t too expensive and it is SIMPLE. I am all for simple and easy to match with. As for the shoes, they are pretty straight forward and classic, but that is before you look at their heels. Yes, hence their name, they do have hollow heels, which I find rather amazing, a very lustful kind of way. I want them so bad. The ring, yeah it’s pretty cool, I love the sleek-ness of it and the small details added to it.

ps. My saved thought Fridays post has pictures that wont upload properly, and just show a red triangle with an exclamation point in it. I'm trying to figure out how to work out. I am also trying to figure out who can take my outfit pictures. I have to admit, I have ZERO outfits to show you right now :(

OUTFIT/ Summer in Black

Sacrificing blog quality for content is NEVER a good idea. Why do I do it?

I definitely did not want to go to the “event” my family went to. To summarize, it basically sucked, A LOT. I was mourning so I guess I felt black; it only helps that black is a “summer trend”, I think. LOL

ps. The ladies of thinkincognito.blogspot.com have given me a blog award. Thanks! I made a page for it and I have something for YOU at the bottom, check it out here

I am quite obsessed with having a white coloured room. First of all, my room is tiny so the white would make it look bigger. It’s also perfect for taking shots indoors. I am definitely quite jealous of all the Scandinavian kids with simple white rooms. They can take pictures at any corner and it sort-off looks blog worthy. I guess I’ll be having a small room reno.

NEW/Converse Guide Mid-boot

new shoes copy

Not the minimalist I had in mind but hey, they were cheap and perfect for summer and fall

During my impromptu vintage excursion, I picked both these brand new shoes for 20 bucks along with some 3 vintage tops. A store was closing out so they had a fill-a-bag promo. I couldn’t pass up these shoes. I need black shoes and the green shoes were pretty cool. I’ve yet to figure out how I’ll rock these with pants. I’ll show you the rest of my vintage excursion in another post.

ps. I also want to improve my indoor shots. I want natural sunlighting and white walls. My room is in the basement. Go figure.

UPDATE/ New Start-ish

bw1

Uhh so I just got rid of basically half my closet. I threw away none of it. The ifs are folded neatly in a storage box and the future of the rest are still to be decided (give to Dad, friends and relatives,sell for consignment, giveaway to a charity shop)

p.s I need to improve making my black and white photos.

Since I had such small text, I’ll give a song that has been on my replay for a few days now.It’s a french song by a singer in Quebec. He’s cool, I LOVE his music. Fave Canadian singer most probably. And yes, I understand the song,well most of it that is.

DETAILS/ The Half-Tuck

shirt tuck

//credit|Afterdrk.com//

The half-tuck is a simple way for a minimalist to add some pizazz to their outfits.

Recently, I’ve really fancied the idea of a minimalist style. I have ALWAYS loved it on many people, yet I never found myself dressing in the style. I always found myself boring-looking whilst wearing a “minimalist ensemble”.

I have said before that blogging has taught me the trait of observation, to copy the good and observe how they do it. I think that Sabrina Meijer of Afterdrk.com has a style on the minimalist side. Her frocks are never all too frilly, or too clashing with colour. They are simple but they don’t look boring, or worse unfashionable.

I always see Sabrina sporting a little half tuck on her shirts. I am not sure if I am the only person that sees beauty and sophistication in it. A simple minimalist plain t-shirt is now something of intrigue. The tuck causes the fabric to drape nonchalantly in a sophisticated matter.

I have yet to master this seemingly simple technique. How she does it so well?, I have yet to observe

OUTFIT/ New Blazer

//Blazer|H&M//Tee|H&M//Shorts|Esprit//Dying shoes|Aldo//Sunglasses|Random//

Hey, this blazer’s 15 dollars. Im buying it! When will I ever stop wearing these shoes, I don’t think you can see how damaged it is. It’s pretty horrible.

This is the 2nd outfit of the little photo session I had with my “photographer” He has no training in photography at all; he literally just pushes the button lol. The blazer probably won’t make it to my “clothing shortlist”, the quality is quite horrible and I can’t really move my arms around. Probably the biggest reason that I don’t have many blazers is because of my body type. I have a short body, broad shoulders and big arms. Actually,everything is big on me for my height.

Now I can say that my hair is pretty unusual for my city, but it’s just not enough for me. I’m still looking for a bit more oddity, some more colour or unusual texture. Ivania Carpio, a blogger I recently discovered, is my recent inspiration. She’s rocking some odd hair. She’s odd yes,but she is very very beautiful.

THOUGHT/Spontaneous Levels of Style

branch2

//credit|love-aesthetics.blogspot.com//

I never really intended to create this post. It just came out of the blue yet I feel that it is necessary for me to talk about and serve as my online personal note. This will mostly serve myself.

I’ve noticed something sinister with my collection of clothes. Its level of stylishness is completely spontaneous. One day Chictopia.com will feature me in a tweet linking to my look and the next day I don’t even get one hype on Lookbook.nu . I am not always completely satisfied with my wardrobe. I never was. There are always missing links and my basics are simply worn too often. There’s a small pool of clothing I really like in a bunch of clothes I can’t get rid of,that I have to get rid of. I guess I really need to make my mind up huh?

I think I will do a REALLY BIG closet purge. Very much strip down my wardrobe down to the core, but keep the other clothes for a few months. Once I find myself wanting to wear it and being able to put it into 3 GOOD outfits, then it’s back to the shortlist. This, with a continuation of buying well made basic clothes and investments will really bring out my style. DIY-ing some really great accesories would probably top off my big fashion cake.

GOALS/July-recap, August

jvest4blackwhite

Well I basically failed my July “to-buy list”. On the contrary, I came home with a lot of pretty great-ish buys this month.I didn’t mention I scored a bag full of vintage stuff and two pairs of brand new shoes for 20 bucks. I have yet to show you guys what those things are.

For August, I am skipping the 5 pieces goal for a different challenge I want to take on. August will be my DIY month. On the quest to improving my style, I ventured into finding accessories, and found nothing that I liked enough(or priced well enough)to buy.  (I’ve become quite picky recently). Therefore I came across the idea of just making my own accessories. I seem to be very much on the simplistic side when it comes to accessories so making them might just be possible. I’m thinking big pendants. (not wide) metal cuffs.Little leather goods and bags. Heck I even thought of something made with fur!

I will definitely find myself in fabric, hardware and thrift stores this August. I will also be on the lookout for some great reliable vintage items. No new unused clothes will be bought this month.
